LOUIS ICART (1880-1950)

LOUIS ICART (1880-1950)
Louis Icart’s etchings epitomize the depiction of women during the art deco period. He created in excess of 500 etchings using a combination of techniques including etchings and dry point with stylistic hand coloring. He created full sized etchings, erotic illustrated books, beautiful pastel enhanced lithographs, menu covers, posters, postcards, advertising prints, and oils on canvas.Born in Toulouse, France, Icart began drawing at an early age. Particularly fascinated with fashion, Icart worked for major design studios.
In 1914 Icart had met a magical, effervescent eighteen-year-old blonde named Fanny Volmers, at the time an employee of the fashion house Paquin. She would eventually become his wife and a source of artistic inspiration for the rest of his life.
